Encrypting with Windows BitLocker<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BitLocker<\/strong> is built into Windows Pro\/Education\/Enterprise editions and secures drives with AES encryption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Insert the USB drive.<\/strong> Open File Explorer and confirm the drive appears (e.g., <code>E:<\/code>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enable BitLocker.<\/strong> Right-click the USB drive and select <strong>&#8220;Turn on BitLocker.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Choose encryption method.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select <strong>&#8220;Use a password to unlock the drive.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter and confirm a strong password (8+ characters with letters, numbers, symbols).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save your recovery key.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose to save to your Microsoft account, save to a file on your PC, or print it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Important:<\/strong> Keep this key safe\u2014without it, you cannot recover data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Start encryption.<\/strong> Click <strong>&#8220;Start encrypting.&#8221;<\/strong> The process may take several minutes depending on drive size.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Complete.<\/strong> Once finished, the drive icon shows a padlock. You\u2019ll need the password to access files.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Encrypting with macOS Disk Utility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Disk Utility<\/strong> on macOS lets you create encrypted volumes on USB drives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Insert the USB drive.<\/strong> Launch <strong>Disk Utility<\/strong> (Finder \u2192 Applications \u2192 Utilities).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Erase and format.<\/strong> Select the USB drive in the sidebar, click <strong>&#8220;Erase.&#8221;<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Format:<\/strong> Choose <strong>&#8220;Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted)&#8221;<\/strong> o <strong>&#8220;APFS (Encrypted).\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Name the drive<\/strong> and click <strong>&#8220;Erase.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Set a password.<\/strong> Enter and verify a strong password. Optionally enable a hint.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wait for formatting.<\/strong> The drive will be reformatted and encrypted in one step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accessing the drive.<\/strong> Each time you insert it, macOS prompts for the password before mounting.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Cross-Platform Encryption with VeraCrypt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VeraCrypt<\/strong> is a free, open-source tool available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Download and install VeraCrypt.<\/strong> Get it from <code>https:\/\/www.veracrypt.fr<\/code>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Insert the USB drive.<\/strong> Launch VeraCrypt and click <strong>&#8220;Create Volume.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Volume type.<\/strong> Select <strong>&#8220;Encrypt a non-system partition\/drive.&#8221;<\/strong> Click <strong>&#8220;Next.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Select device.<\/strong> Choose your USB drive from the list. Click <strong>&#8220;Next.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Encryption options.<\/strong> Stick with the defaults (AES, SHA-512) unless you have special needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Volume password.<\/strong> Enter a strong password and optional keyfiles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Format the volume.<\/strong> Choose filesystem (exFAT for compatibility).
